ED AND ANNE LUNDSTROM SCHOLARSHIP

Ed and Anne Lundstrom started their scholarship in 1997 for two reasons.  First, they strongly believe that higher education, for those who aspire to it, can be critically important to achieving their lifetime goals. Second, they believe that all of us have a responsibility to give back to society time, talents and resources in whatever way we are able to provide.

Ed and Anne write:  "We grew up in difficult situations but, our parents encouraged us to continue our education. We both did that and with hard work, loans, family help and scholarships were able to earn degrees in business related fields. We both used that education to launch careers that turned out to be incredibly interesting, satisfying and rewarding. We hope that our small contribution to Floodwood graduates can help them achieve their lifetime goals as well.

Early in our relationship we both described a need to give back what we could to others. We decided that Floodwood graduates, bound for additional education, would be a wonderful way to do that. Ed is a Floodwood native, graduated in 1968 , co-captain of the football and basketball teams. And, more importantly, on the team that defeated Esko 6-2 at our homecoming. Some things just stick with you forever. Ed purchased property in Halden in 1983 and never really left Floodwood. He and his sons spent virtually every weekend at the cabin. So, we set up a foundation through Minnesota Foundation to provide annual scholarships to graduating student (s) meeting certain criteria. Those criteria are: 1) Must be a graduating Floodwood School senior, 2) maintained a 3.0 GPA in their junior and senior years, and 3) plans to attend a four-year college. We are now in the process of moving to Floodwood full time and are so looking forward to it.

We receive incredible satisfaction from these gifts and each student has written us thank you and some have expressed their thanks in other ways.

We hope that this scholarship remains a vital part of Dollars for Scholars for years to come."
